Week of Feb. 12-16, 2018

Sorry about the post last week getting up late - I wrote it all up on Friday but forgot to hit "Publish"!

Notes:
  • The deadline to order hot lunch online is on Tuesday.
  • Our Valentine's Day activities and fondue party will take place Wednesday afternoon.  If you would like to contribute something to dip in chocolate, please let your child's teacher know.
  • Next week is Reading Week which means no school for students.  There are all sorts of programs going on around Lethbridge if you're looking for something for your child to do.  Check out the University, or CASA, or the Nature Centre.  There will be loads of stuff to do around the city on Family Day and some places offer programs for the week.
  • Mrs. Samayoa has been having a great time going outside with the students who have permission to be out on indoor recess days.  There have been many frolics in the beautiful snow that has fallen so abundantly this week and the kids have been having a blast.  If you'd like to add your child to this club and haven't, let us know!  We'll send home another form for you.  Research shows the many benefits to going outside in all weather - mental and physical.  We encourage all students to walk away from the screens and get outside every day!  The Nature Centre has some great ways to get outside and have fun in the winter.  Check them out!

Curriculum:
  • Math: We are going to review multiplication and division this week and have a unit test on Thursday.  Please help your child by reviewing basic multiplication and division facts.  See the Math Review page for some suggestions.
  • L.A.
    • Spelling: We're halfway through Lesson 9.  The assessment will take place Thursday.
    • Writing: This week we are starting to prepare for writing a persuasive essay.  We are looking at being able to give reasons for things.  You could help at home by having your child make a list of reasons for something they like to do, or something you have in your home (e.g. What are 5 reasons for a carpet?  A bed?  A banana?).  Be creative!
  • Science: We will have our Wheels and Levers unit test on Tuesday.  The review sheet is on the Science Review page.
  • Social: We will be trekking to the northernmost corner of Alberta this week: The Canadian Shield Region.  You can help at home by asking your child about what it's like way up there or by doing some research together about this remote but beautiful part of our province.
