Week of Mar. 19-23, 2018

Thank you to the many parents who were able to join us for Celebration of Learning.  It's wonderful to see the pride on the faces of our students as they show their parents all of their hard work.

Notes:
  • Registration for the 2018-2019 school year has begun!  Please carefully go through the forms being sent home with your child and return them by Mar. 29.  If you know your child will not be coming to Galbraith next year, please let the office know as this will affect creating class lists for grade 5.
  • If you haven't already, please return your child's report card envelope with a signature on it.  This shows us you've seen it and allows us to save paper and reuse it in June.

Curriculum:
  • Math: Work on fractions continues with comparing and ordering fractions.  You can help at home by talking about fractions - which are greater?  Least?  We will also go into decimals this week.  In grade 4, students learn about tenths (e.g. 0.1) and hundredths (e.g.0.01).
  • L.A.
    • Spelling: Lesson 11 dictation on Thursday.

Week of Mar. 12-16, 2018

There are a few things going on this week!

Notes:
  • The deadline to hand in forms for the free hot lunch is Tuesday, March 13th.  Your child's teacher has a list if you can't remember if you handed it in or not!
  • If you haven't already, please sign and return your child's report card envelope.
  • We look forward to seeing you at Celebration of Learning on Thursday!

Curriculum:
  • Math: A tricky part of fractions is learning about fractions of a set and then comparing them.  We are learning about how a fraction of one group or set can be greater or less than the same fraction of a different set.  For example, half of a small pizza (2 pieces) is less than half of a large pizza (5 pieces).  You can help at home by having your child create sets and compare them.
  • L.A.
    • Spelling: Lesson 11 has begun this week.
    • Writing: We will be learning how to brainstorm and plan a persuasive essay this week.
  • Science: In science this week, we will be studying waste water.  You can help at home by making sure your child jots down their water usage (watch for a message in the agenda).
  • Social: We are combing social and science this week a bit as we learning about water usage and drought in the Grassland Region.  We will also wrap up our journey through the regions of Alberta with our very own Calgary Stampede on Thursday!
